Rajnath Singh’s Criticism on Tejashwi Yadav’s Navratri Video Sparks Controversy

Defence Minister and BJP stalwart Rajnath Singh recently launched a sharp verbal assault on former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav regarding a video that surfaced showing Yadav eating fish on the eve of Navratri, a Hindu festival observed by many for religious fasting. Singh’s remarks, made during a rally in Bihar’s Banka, questioned the appropriateness of Yadav’s actions during a religious period.

Singh’s fiery critique included questions about the message conveyed by such actions during a significant festival like Navratri. He accused Yadav of showcasing a lack of sensitivity towards religious sentiments and criticized him for engaging in such behavior for political gain. Singh’s comments were part of his campaign efforts in Bihar ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

The controversy stemmed from a video posted by Tejashwi Yadav on April 9, where he and former Bihar minister Mukesh Sahani were seen enjoying fried fish for lunch after a day of hectic campaigning. This drew sharp reactions, with Singh questioning Yadav’s motives and expressing disappointment at the disregard for cultural sensitivities.

In another jab at the RJD, Singh also criticized RJD MP Misa Bharti’s statement suggesting that if the INDIA Alliance came to power, PM Modi and BJP leaders would face legal consequences. Singh vehemently defended PM Modi, emphasizing his dedication to the nation and dismissing any notion of him being jailed.

The episode underscores the volatile nature of political campaigning, especially in regions where cultural and religious sentiments play a significant role. Singh’s remarks have further fueled the ongoing political discourse in Bihar, adding intensity to the electoral narrative as the Lok Sabha Elections draw closer.
